Learning Programme

JavaScript from first principles to production code

A structured seminar programme built around real problems, not slides. Each session goes deep on one topic so you leave with something you can actually use.

What the programme covers

Six topic areas, each treated as a standalone deep-dive. Participants can attend the full sequence or focus on the modules most relevant to their current work.

Core track
02

Closures and scope

Where variables live, how functions capture their environment, and why this matters for every pattern from callbacks to module design.

Applied
03

Async patterns in practice

Promises, async/await, and error propagation. Worked through with real network scenarios, not toy examples.

Applied
04

Working with the DOM

Event delegation, performance traps, and the difference between what the browser does and what your code tells it to do.

Advanced
05

Module systems and bundling

ESM, CommonJS, and what actually happens when a bundler processes your code. Practical configuration for real project setups.

Advanced
06

Testing and debugging

Writing tests that catch real failures, reading stack traces, and using browser and Node.js tools to understand what code is actually doing at runtime.

How sessions are structured

Each seminar follows a consistent format designed around active participation rather than passive listening.

Participants discussing JavaScript code during a seminar
90 min
per focused session, no padding
Before the session
  • Short reading: a focused problem statement sent 48 hours ahead
  • Code sample: something to run locally and examine before arriving
During the session
  • Live coding: the facilitator builds in real time, errors included
  • Breakout discussion: small groups work through a specific scenario
  • Q&A with context: questions answered with reference to the code on screen
After the session
  • Annotated code: the session repository with comments added post-discussion
  • Follow-up task: an optional extension problem for those who want to go further

Participant feedback after 215 reviews

Ratings collected from cohorts running since 2019. The programme has been revised seven times based on what participants said wasn't working.

Sessions run across APAC, European, and North American time zones - no single cohort is disadvantaged by location
Recordings available for 30 days after each session with full code repository access
Small cohorts - a maximum of 18 participants per group keeps discussion substantive
Facilitators are practitioners, not career trainers - they work with JavaScript daily
